Auxiliary

HISTORY
The name of the auxiliary is Daughters of Jerusalem and Sisters of Mercy.

The auxiliary was established by Prophet William Saunders Crowdy, through divine vision, on June 26, 1898. The Daughters of Jerusalem and Sisters of Mercy is among the oldest women's organizations in the USA. Before sororities and other social groups, there were women who prayed for the welfare of others, assisted in distress, and aided suffering humanity. The work of the Daughters of Jerusalem and the Sisters of Mercy is beautiful in its religious principles and its aid to suffering humanity.

In his God-given work of establishing churches in many cities and towns of the United States, Prophet Crowdy often found it necessary to leave new members and go on to establish another church, and another, and another, in still another city or town. He used this auxiliary as one means to help keep the members together and help the Church to grow. The Daughters were also an important means in helping him to travel and spread the gospel.

Today, the mission of the Daughters of Jerusalem and Sisters of Mercy in Bridgeport, Connecticut, remains the same as it was in 1898: "aiding suffering humanity," as inspired by its Founder, Prophet William Saunders Crowdy.

PURPOSE

The auxiliary teaches that religion is a duty. The auxiliary preaches and practices the work of religious women as outlined in 1st Timothy 1st chapter, the 2nd Chapter of Titus, and 1st Corinthians 13th chapter.
